The Government delivers after all - SID visa launch announced!

Despite the presupposed delay, on 3 December 2024, the Australian Government pleasantly surprised us and announced the launch of the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL), a consolidated skills list that provides access to temporary skilled migration for 456 occupations.

The CSOL is based on labour market analysis and stakeholder consultation undertaken by Jobs and Skills Australia and includes some occupations which were not on the previous occupation lists including increased trade occupations, residential care workers, yoga instructors and more.

The new list will apply to the Core Skills stream of the Skills in Demand (SID) visa, replacing the corresponding subclass of the Temporary Skills Shortage visa (subclass 482). It will also cover the Direct Entry stream of the permanent Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186), offering a clear pathway to permanent residency for individuals in occupations listed on the CSOL. The SID visa is set to launch on Saturday, 7 December 2024, with further details about the other two streams expected in the coming days.
