NSW Nominations open for 2024 – 2025 program year
Priority sectors have been identified by NSW including Construction, Renewables, Care Economy, Digital and Cyber, Education, Agriculture and Agrifood, and Advanced Manufacturing. The Skilled Migrant Program facilitates support for these critical sectors by skilled workers, to ensure that the current and future needs of the State’s economy are met.
A feature of the latest release is the potential for a 10% concession on the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) for applicants in select occupations, meaning that the barriers to meeting minimum thresholds is lowered, providing a small margin of relief to regional employers and overseas workers.
Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) Invitation rounds for NSW nominations will begin soon. Eligible workers who have an occupation on the NSW Skills List, have a valid Skills Assessment, and have submitted an Expression of Interest for this visa, may receive a selection-based invitation to Nominate, which must be responded to within the strict 14 day timeframe.
NSW Nomination Pathways 1 and 3 under the Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491) will open soon, focusing on migrants living, working and studying in designated regional areas. It is encouraging to see the introduction of the new Pathway 3, for graduates from Regional NSW institutions who can extend their contribution to regional communities beyond their qualifications into their chosen professional fields.
For regional employees, the reduction of the 12 month minimum period down to six months means the transition to a permanent visa is more readily accessible.
